Querida familia, Cuando la gente piensa en la República Dominicana, casi siempre lo primero que imagina son nuestras playas: el agua color turquesa, las palmeras y ese verano que parece no terminar nunca. Y sí, todo eso es hermoso. Pero algunos de los mayores tesoros de nuestra tierra están escondidos mucho más allá de la orilla. El larimar es uno de ellos.

La primera vez que sostuve un pedacito de larimar entre mis manos, pensé que alguien había atrapado un pedazo del mar Caribe y lo había convertido en piedra. Sus tonos azules y blancos me recordaron las olas rompiendo en la costa, los viajes en familia a la isla, las tardes escuchando el sonido del mar y esa sensación de que, por un momento, el tiempo se detenía. Se sentía familiar. Se sentía como volver a casa. Lo que hace al larimar aún más extraordinario es que no existe en ningún otro lugar del planeta. En un mundo donde tantas cosas parecen fabricadas en serie y todas se parecen, hay algo profundamente especial en saber que esta piedra pertenece únicamente a Quisqueya.

Nació del fuego de antiguos volcanes, fue moldeada durante millones de años y finalmente descubierta en las montañas de Barahona. Su historia nos recuerda que las cosas más hermosas de la vida necesitan tiempo para convertirse en lo que están destinadas a ser. Para muchas personas, el larimar es mucho más que una piedra preciosa.
